What you are buying
A correspondence with a historical figure
Your student receives handwritten letters by mail and writes back by hand; each letter responds to what they wrote and weaves in the figure's real history. Social studies content and writing practice, grades 2 and up. Fixed-length packages, fixed prices, shipping included.

The three steps
Order, save the receipt, submit

Email mark@historicalpenpals.com with your student's first name, grade, the package you want, and your Florida mailing address. We send a secure card payment link. PEP requires purchases to ship to a Florida address, and a P.O. Box is fine.
Save the receipt
The payment receipt is your proof of purchase. With it we email a typed invoice that names the student, the package, the price, and the category, which is what the reimbursement request asks for.
Submit in EMA
File the reimbursement request under Curriculum & curriculum materials or Instructional materials, with the receipt and the invoice attached.

Pre-authorization
Step Up decides what is eligible, and a personalized correspondence is not a typical catalog item. You can request pre-authorization in EMA before you buy; pre-authorization requests for this school year are accepted until May 28, 2027. If Step Up asks for a description, use the one below.

Historical Pen Pals, 12-Letter Correspondence (or 6-Letter, 3-Letter), $69 ($39, $25), shipping included. A single-student history and writing course delivered by mail: the student receives personalized handwritten letters from a historical figure and writes back by hand. Each letter responds to the student's writing and teaches the figure's real history. Fixed length, no recurring charge, one student per package. Good to know
The short version
Each package covers one student. Siblings each get their own.
Nothing renews or recurs. When the letters are done, it is done.
Refunds for purchases made with scholarship or ESA funds are returned to the student's scholarship account, never to the parent.
